AMEA Scholarship Program

Thanks to AMEA and its 11 Member cities, 32 high school seniors will enroll in a four-year university or two-year college this year. Through the AMEA Scholarship Program, which was started in 1992, approximately $80,000 in scholarships was awarded in the 2009 program.

NOTE: Applications for the AMEA 2010 Scholarship Program are no longer being accepted. Application deadline was Feb. 1, 2010. A list of the 2010 winners will be posted to this page in May.

For the past 17 years, AMEA has assisted deserving students in each of its 11 Member cities with their first-year tuition to a state university. Recognizing that many high school seniors seek training in a technical or trade program, AMEA added the Technical School Scholarship in 2004.

Each year, AMEA and its 11 Member cities make available 22, $2,500 scholarships (two scholarships per Member city), and 11, $2,500 technical school scholarships (one technical school scholarship per Member city), for a total of 33 scholarships.

To be eligible for either of AMEA’s scholarships, a student’s family must receive electric service from a Member’s electric utility and the student must attend an Alabama college or university.
